Parthenay – just 10km away, is the medieval capital of the Gatine encircled by granite fortifications. St Jaques Quarter & Citadel are very interesting and picturesque.
    
    Bressuire and Thouars – Both these towns are famed for their historical chateaux.
     
    Chateau d’Orion - near Thouars is magnificent with large formal gardens.
    
    Chateau de Saint-Loup - is a jewel of French architectural heritage from  Louis XIII period. The keep is Medieval and is all set in  50 hectares of gardens.
    
    Saumur - is about an hours drive away and well worth going. The Chateau is worth a visit for the views over La Loire alone! It is also where the French Cavalry is based. Good for
    shopping too…
    
    Lac Du Cebron – great place for windsurfing, other water sports and  bird watching.
    
    La Rochelle – has a lovely harbour with three medieval towers, cobbled streets with granite fortifications, steeped in history.  There are harbour-side restaurants and
    beautiful beaches with swimming areas.
    
    Le Marais Poitevin – Is an area with 600kms of navigable canals and rivers, offering boat cruises and boat hire also.  Cycle hire is available here too.
Pay du Fou – Is a medieval theme park with displays of equestrian skills, falconry and jousting.
    
    Futuroscope – based on the “cinema experience” and 3D technology.
Nantes- visit the Isle of Nantes and take a ride on the 40 feet tall giant Elephant and other creations.
